Marmaris

Marmaris is located is clad with pine forests famed for their resin and tar.The resin and other sap obtained from the trees growing in the area today as was in antiquity were dried and used to heal various diseases,primarily of stomach and intestines,hence the name of the city.
Marmara is a worldwide renowned tourism center with its accommodation facilities,restaurants,yacht tourism,underwater driving,paragliding activities,excursion tours,entertainment activities and natural bays and beaches.
Marmaris is one of Turkey's major yachting ports and the modern Netsel Marina is reputed to be the best and safest in the eastern Mediterranean is an extremely popular mooring base which has berths for a large number of yachts. The International Marmaris Yachting Festival takes place every year in May, the Marmaris Festival in June and the International Marmaris Yacht Race Festival in November.
 
Marmaris Museum
Located within the Castle Walls, and first opened to the public on 18 May 1991. 7 galleries are found within its walls. Of the galleries, one hold archeological artifacts while other has been ethnographically designed like a traditional Turkish house. Another gallery is the actual room of the Castle Commander in Chief. Together with an existing Exhibition Hall.
Marmaris Castle
According to Heredotus' records, the Castle was first constructed by the lonians in 3000 B.C. In 1522, during Alexander the Greats' voyage to Rhodes, Suleyman the Magnificent constructed the Castle to a larger scale. It was finally nationalized in 1979 and restored within the following 10 years.Thought to have been constructed by the Ionians, this small castle on the hill was repaired during the time of Alexander the Great. It was widened and repaired again by Suleyman the Magnificent 1522, during which time his 200,000 troops attacked and seized the island of Rhodes.
The castle opened as a museum in 1991, after restorations that took ten years. It has seven galleries, and has a collection of archaeological, historical, ethnographic and nautical exhibits. The views of the city are wonderful, with a wonderful panorama day and night.
 
 Hydas
The rampart ruins dating back to the Hellenistic era lie in Hydas, 35km from Marmaris along the Erine-Bybassios road, with a square planned monument to the south.

There are several tombs around a watchtower, 3 km from Hydas. The ancient region of Hydas was founded in the Selimiye bay (Kamisli Bay) north of the Bozburun peninsula.
Sariana Mausoleum
The mausoleum, in the district of Sariana, has a bird's eye view of the city and has a new mosque adjacent to it. Before the Rodos expedition, it was here that Kanuni had visited Fatma Ana (Sariana) who was famous for her predictions,. After she gave him a positive response, he commenced the siege. Before his departure from Marmaris, thousands of Ottoman soldiers left on their journey after a nourishing breakfast of the milk from Sariana's cow.
